Our family loves summer! Not because of the extreme heat but because we have one great reason to stay the whole day on the beach resort in Batangas. Since the Philippines has been on total lockdown due to the rising cases of Covid19 last summer, we were not able to go out. Now that the guidelines are less stricter and the whole clan is together, the thought of going for a quick swimming getaway came up. We immediately grabbed the chance to enjoy our summer in November. We hopped in our cars with lots of food and our swimming necessities.

To where? No one knows.

We initially thought of going to Lobo, Batangas. Lobo beaches are known for having beautiful fine sands and scenic views that people of all ages will definitely enjoy. I already imagined how my kids will love the place. They have always wanted to go to the beach. My eldest, M, said that after the lockdown, we will go to the beach with a coconut tree, make sandcastles and play beach balls.

Here goes the bad news, better viewed in this vlog. When we reached Lobo, there was a checkpoint. They are not yet accepting tourists. I felt like there’s a big bubble with all the things I was expecting to happen then it suddenly bursts in my face. We drove for hours which we haven’t done for months. We are all feeling dizzy and the kids started vomiting. And yet, we were nowhere near any beach nor resort.

We had to act fast and search for a new place to go. San Juan, Batangas? Still closed for tourists. Same as the swimming pools in Cuenca. Bauan? I don’t know. Then, Batangas City came to mind. It was one of the nearest with lots of beach resorts and most likely, open to guests and tourists.

Of all the beach resorts in the area, we chose to stay at Vista de Puente Beach Resort. We have been here before and we definitely had a good time. Instagrammable view, swimming pools, decent amenities, and friendly staff. It also has a spacious parking lot so even around two to three groups going out, we didn’t even come close to each other. We paid P175 for each adult and  the cabana P1000 or P1500, I forgot. The kids are free.

We entered the pool area past the golden hour. The sun is almost set but still picture-perfect especially for silhouette shots. The beach resort has two pools beautifully divided by a ramp and has an illusion of being one with the ocean and the sky. This is also where most IG shots are taken.

Even though the beach area was already closed, my kids definitely had a blast in the shallow area of the swimming pool while the adults were playing pool games. We stayed there for almost five hours, with short breaks to go to the powder room or the cabana to eat. We have lots of baon – spaghetti (Ina makes the yummiest spaghetti!), cake, apples, and many more. Oh. Let me just add that there’s an ihaw-ihaw stall outside the beach resort vicinity. Yummy isaw and vinegar! Pulutan turned snack ng lahat! Hahaha
teamfamily in Vista de Puente Beach Resort 2020I was so happy to have the cabana and swimming pool area by ourselves as if we rented the whole place. Truly a good time to unwind and for family bonding. Aside from us, there are also two groups in the beach resort at that time. One group was cooking when we arrived. (Side story: A coconut suddenly fell in the cooking area. Good thing, it just fell on the roof above those people.) They just stayed inside their villa. And the other group who came in after we entered, stayed on the poolside while drinking and sharing stories.

More info

For day tours like us, they allow walk-ins. No reservation is needed but the tables and cabanas are on a first-come-first-served basis. We entered a bit late so the staff was kind enough to let us stay until 11 pm instead of 10 pm. For those who would like to stay overnight, they require a reservation and a 50% down payment of the chosen room through bank deposit or online transfer. Placing a reservation is valid for 3 days only (info based on their FB account).

Note: Don’t worry, we see to it that the rules on social distancing, wearing face masks and face shields, and washing our hands regularly were strictly observed throughout the trip.
